Campendium's trip planner lets you build a route, add stops along the way, and organize your entire road trip in one place. Trip planning is available on the Campendium website and requires a Campendium RV Pro membership.
Trip planning is not yet available in the mobile app. It's coming soon, but you can plan a trip on Campendium.com in a web browser on your mobile device in the meantime!
Creating a New Trip
There are a couple easy ways to start a trip:
From the left nav: Click the Start Trip button (the + icon) in the left sidebar on the map.
From a campground/place page: Click the New trip button at the top of any campground or place page to start a trip with that place as your destination.
The "Where are you going?" modal
However you start, you'll see the trip creation modal:
Starting point: This is where you're departing from. You can save your home address for quick access, or type in a place and select it from the drop down.
Destination: Any secondary point on your trip. We recommend using the farthest known stop on your trip, especially if this is a round trip. If you didn't start a trip from a place page, you can type a destination into the search bar and select it from the autocomplete suggestions. Your destination can be a city, town, landmark, campground, or any place on our map in the U.S., Canada, or Baja Mexico.
Choose a Planning mode:
You have two options: let us build the trip for you based on a few inputs, or create the trip on your own with suggestions from our map. If you choose to create it on your own, you will still be able to leverage our Autopilot tool later to get suggestions within your trip!
If you're building a trip around campgrounds, we highly suggest starting with Plan on your own then using Autopilot to enhance your trip later!
- Plan on your own — Build your route yourself by browsing the map and adding stops as you go.
- Plan with Autopilot — AI-powered suggestions based on 42 million real trips. Autopilot recommends places to stop based on your interests.
Add dates (optional) — Set a start and end date for your trip. You can always add this later.
After working through the above, click Create trip.
Adding stops during setup
After clicking Create trip, you'll be asked "Do you have any places you already plan to visit?" You can add known stops here before launching, or skip this step and add them later. There's also an I want to avoid highways checkbox at this stage.
If you selected to plan using Autopilot, you'll have some other questions to answer about your trip, too.
Click Launch trip to open the full itinerary.
The Trip Itinerary
Once your trip is created, the sidebar switches to the itinerary view showing your route. The map draws a line between your stops, with numbered circles marking each waypoint.
From top to bottom, here is what you'll see on the itinerary:
Trip header
- Banner photo - Pulled from your destination. Customize it in Trip settings.
- Close Trip - Remove this trip from the map. Trips are autosaved and can be reopened from My Trips.
- Invite - Invite collaborators so you can work on this trip together.
- Trip name - Auto-generated from your destination (e.g. "Sedona Trip"). Edit it in Trip settings.
- Share — Share a link to your trip.
- Print — Print your full itinerary including turn-by-turn directions for the entire trip — useful if you prefer a printed route or want directions without relying on the app.
- Trip Overview — View trip drive time, distance, costs, and update your fuel estimate. You can open your trip guide here too.

Stop cards
These are the stops you've added to your trip so far. You can route these, which keeps them on your driving route, or you can unroute them which saves them to your trip, but doesn't add them to your route.
Between two stop cards, you'll see the distance and drive time to the next stop.
The Find stops here feature shows if you have added a city or town to your trip. It let's you use Autopilot to get suggestions for Places to Camp, Activities and Experiences, or Places to Eat in that area.
The eye icon let's you route or unroute a stop.
Click the '...' menu on a stop to
- View place info — open the full campground or place page

- Exclude from route — keep the stop in the itinerary but remove it from routing calculations
- Remove waypoint — delete the stop from the trip entirely

Adding Stops
From the map: Click the + button on any map pin popup or result card to add that place directly to your current trip.
Using Find stops here: Click Find stops here under any city/town in the itinerary to launch Autopilot. Choose what you're looking for — Places to Camp, Activities and Experiences, or Places to Eat — and Autopilot will suggest options near that leg of your trip.
From the left nav: The Add to Trip button (+ icon) in the left sidebar lets you search for places to add by name or get recommendations from Autopilot.
From search: Use the search bar at the top of the page to turn on a category, then use the + button on the result card if you want to add a place to your trip.
You can add up to 150 stops to a single trip.

Routing Options
Click Routing options in the itinerary panel to customize how your route is calculated. Options include:
I want to avoid:
- Highways
- Toll Roads
- Boat Ferries
- Dirt Roads
RV-Safe routing
When enabled, Campendium calculates your route to account for your RV's size and weight. It avoids low bridges, weight-restricted roads, and areas with propane restrictions.
If you have an RV saved on your profile and applied to your trip, your RV's dimensions are pulled from your vehicle. Make sure your height, weight, and propane status are saved there for accurate routing. If no RV-safe route can be found, you'll see a warning.
US Routes Only
RV-friendly routing is only available for routes within the United States. RV settings will not apply to any portions of your route that extend outside U.S. boundaries.
Propane On Board
Enabling Propane On Board will attempt to route your trip around areas in the United States with strict propane restrictions. These restrictions typically apply regardless of propane volume or whether your valve is shut off.
Warning callout In some cases, propane-restricted areas cannot be avoided entirely. If that happens, you'll see a warning letting you know.
In all cases, we recommend reviewing road information before you depart, as we do not independently verify routing data. Always use your own judgment and follow local laws and traffic codes.
Alter route
- Make Round Trip: Adds your starting point as the final destination, turning your one-way trip into a loop.
- Reroute Trip: If you're consistently receiving a routing error or the route line is missing from part of your trip, the Reroute Trip tool will look for routing problems and attempt to fix the route.
- Reverse Trip: Flips the order of all waypoints, so your last stop becomes your first and vice versa.
Click Apply to save your routing options, or Clear All to reset them to defaults.
