How to Search Along a Route

When you have an active trip open, Campendium can filter search results to places within a set distance of your route — so instead of seeing campgrounds across the entire map, you only see what's actually reachable from where you're driving.

This feature requires an RV Pro membership.

Trip planning is available on the Campendium website. Trip planning is not yet available in the mobile app, but you can open Campendium.com in a web browser on your phone to use trip planning features!

How It Works

Route-based search activates automatically when you have a trip open with at least a start point and end point. When you select a category from the search bar, Campendium shows places within a set corridor along your route rather than everywhere on the map.

This means if you're driving from Denver to Moab and search for Public Land, you see campgrounds near your path — not every BLM site in the western US.

Setting Your Search Radius

When you open the Explore panel with a trip active, a radius selector appears at the top: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, or ∞ miles from your route. Select the distance that makes sense for your trip — tighter for highway drives, wider for more flexibility.

The selected radius applies to all category searches while your trip is open.

Quick Shortcuts in the Explore Panel

With a trip open, if you don't already have a category applied then the Explore panel also shows two shortcut cards — Free Public Camping and Bookable RV Parks — that apply those categories along your route instantly without having to open the search bar.

Searching Along Your Route

  1. Open the trip planner and make sure your route has at least a start and end point
  2. Click the search bar at the top of the map — it reads "Find places to camp, gas, and things to do"
  3. Select any category from the menu

You can choose from the four core Campendium categories listed below, or browse other options (Fuel & Charging, Rest Stops, Bars & Restaurants, and more):

  • Public Land — free and low-cost dispersed camping, national parks, BLM, state parks
  • RV Parks — private campgrounds with full amenities
  • Overnight RV Parking — Walmart lots, casinos, truck stops, rest areas
  • Dump Stations — standalone dump stations

The map updates to show matching places within your chosen radius of the route. Results also appear in the sidebar list. You can apply filters and sort the same way you would in any other search.

To remove the category filter, clear the search bar by clicking the X inside the search bar.

Adding a Place to Your Trip

When you find a place you want to stop at, click the + button on its map pin popup or result card. It's added to your itinerary immediately and the route recalculates.
