Campendium's built-in GPS navigation routes you based on your RV's specific dimensions and restrictions — so you're not following directions designed for a passenger car. It's available in the Campendium mobile app and requires an RV Pro membership.
How to Launch Navigation
There are three ways to start navigating to a place:
From a map pin — Tap any pin on the map to open the quick preview popup, then tap Navigate.
From a campground page — Open any campground or place page and tap the Navigate button at the bottom of the screen.
From the Navigation tab — Tap Navigation in the bottom bar of the app to set a destination directly.
Choosing Your RV
After tapping Navigate, an page to set or confirm your RV settings appears before your route is calculated. You'll see an option to add an RV if you haven't saved one yet, or if you already saved an RV, tap the dropdown where you RV is listed to manage your RV settings:
- Select a saved vehicle from your profile — it shows your rig's height, weight, and whether propane is on board
- Tap the pencil icon next to a saved vehicle to edit its details
- Tap Custom dimensions to enter one-time dimensions without saving them to your profile
- Tap Add RV, Camper, or Motorhome to add a new vehicle to your profile
You can toggle RV-safe routing on or off using the switch next to your vehicle name — turn it off if you're traveling by car and don't need RV restrictions applied.
Route and Trip Options
Tap the settings icon (the gear) to open Trip Options. Here you can:
- Change your navigation app — Switch from Campendium (default) to Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze. Note that third-party apps don't have access to your RV settings, so you'll be routed as a standard vehicle.
- Set route avoidances — Toggle on or off: Avoid highways, Avoid ferries, Avoid toll roads, Avoid dirt roads
Tap Save to apply your trip options.
Selecting a Route
Once you've selected or confirmed your RV and avoidance settings, tap Select Route.
Campendium calculates your route and presents up to two options on the map, each showing estimated drive time and distance. For each route you can:
- Tap Steps to preview the full turn-by-turn direction list before you go
- Tap Go to start navigation immediately
During Navigation
Campendium provides turn-by-turn directions within the app. The next turn and street name appear at the top of the screen, with your estimated arrival time and total distance at the bottom.
The route has already been calculated to avoid problem areas for your rig, like low bridges and weight-restricted roads. If no RV-safe route can be found for your destination, you'll see a warning alerting you of the problem.
Saving Your RV to Your Profile
The fastest way to get into navigation is to save your RV details to your profile ahead of time. Your height, weight, and propane status will be pulled in automatically every time you launch navigation — tap your saved vehicle in the Choose your RV sheet and you're ready to go.
To add or manage your vehicles, tap the Profile tab and select My vehicles. Tap Add a vehicle and choose your vehicle type, then enter the year, make, model, and floorplan — or use Can't find your RV? to enter custom dimensions. The setup also includes fuel type, fuel economy (MPG), and your routing dimensions: height, weight, and whether you're carrying propane.
You can save multiple vehicles and set one as your Primary Vehicle — new navigation sessions will default to that rig automatically.
Using a Different Navigation App
In Profile → Settings → Preferences → Navigation app, you can set a third-party app — Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze — as your default. You can also change this per-trip in Trip Options before starting navigation.
If you use a third-party app, your RV dimensions and restrictions will not carry over. For RV-safe routing, always use Campendium's built-in navigation.
Printing Directions from the Web
If you've planning a trip on the Campendium website, you can also print your full itinerary including turn-by-turn directions directly from the trip planner. Click Print in the trip header — useful if you prefer a printed route or want directions without relying on the app while you drive.
